Key technical answers regarding ELM327 vs KKL interfaces, A1–A6 color adapters, PROXI alignment and SGW bypass.

What is the difference between ELM327 / vLinker MS and VAG KKL?

ELM327 (or the professional Vgate vLinker MS) communicates with CAN-Bus and KWP2000 modules found on modern vehicles (Tipo/Egea, Linea, Fiorino, Doblo, Giulietta, Punto Evo, 500, Renegade) for Engine, Body Computer, Cluster and PROXI coding. VAG KKL is required for older K-Line ABS, Airbag and Engine ECUs using pin switching (Pins 1, 3, 7, 9, 12, 13).

Why is the A3 Yellow adapter cable required?

On most Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia vehicles, the Body Computer, Instrument Panel, Climate Control, Parking Sensors and PROXI Alignment operate on the low-speed CAN bus (Pins 1 and 9). The A3 Yellow adapter routes CAN lines from Pins 6 & 14 to Pins 1 & 9.

What does PROXI Alignment do?

PROXI Alignment synchronizes the vehicle configuration stored in the Body Computer (BCM) across all CAN-Bus nodes. It is used to enable retrofitted features (Cruise Control, fog lights, DRLs, rear camera, multimedia units) and fixes a flashing odometer.

Why do 2018+ Fiat Egea/Tipo, Fiorino, Doblo and Jeep Renegade models need an SGW Bypass cable?

FCA vehicles built from 2018 onward include a Security Gateway (SGW) module that blocks write commands over the standard OBD2 port. Connecting a 12+8 Pin SGW Bypass adapter unlocks DTC clearing, service interval resets, actuator tests and PROXI coding.
