Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Clean the sensor face and check for paint build-up, tape, ice or damage before any electrical testing

What does it mean?

B1210 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Front Left Sensor Fault .

Symptoms

  • Parking sensor fault message or warning lamp on the dash
  • Continuous beep as soon as the system arms instead of a distance tone
  • Parking aid switched off completely so no obstacle is detected anywhere
  • No detection on the front left corner while the other sensors still work
  • False alarms with nothing in front of the vehicle
  • Automatic parking and camera guidance overlays unavailable

Likely causes

  • Sensor internally failed or water-logged after years of exposure
  • Sensor face covered with ice, packed snow, mud, wax or thick paint from bumper refinishing
  • Sensor pushed out of its retaining ring or sitting at the wrong angle after a low-speed impact
  • Chafed, broken or corroded wiring in the front bumper harness
  • Corrosion in the sensor connector from washing, road salt or a damaged seal
  • Blown fuse, poor supply or a bad ground at the parking aid module
  • Parking aid module fault or a network fault stopping the sensor data from being processed

How to fix it

  1. Clean the sensor face and check for paint build-up, tape, ice or damage before any electrical testing
  2. Read the individual sensor distance values in live data while an assistant walks a hand towards each sensor in turn
  3. With the system armed, listen or feel for the sensor ticking; a completely dead sensor is silent
  4. Inspect the front bumper harness and the sensor connector for corrosion, chafe and damage, especially after bumper work
  5. Swap the suspect sensor with a known good one from another position and see whether the fault follows the sensor
  6. Repair the harness, or fit the correct replacement sensor for that position and colour code
  7. Clear the codes and confirm every sensor reports a plausible distance in live data
