What does it mean?
B1215 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Open or Short in the Recirculation Control Motor Circuit .
Symptoms
- Air source stuck on fresh air, or stuck on recirculation, regardless of the setting
- Recirculation button does nothing and its indicator may not change
- Repeated clicking or knocking behind the dashboard as the motor tries to move the flap
- Windows fog up in wet weather, or the cabin will not cool down properly in the heat
- Outside smells cannot be shut out of the cabin in traffic
- Fault indication on the climate display
Likely causes
- Recirculation door actuator motor open or shorted internally
- Actuator gears stripped, or the motor stalled against a jammed door
- Recirculation flap broken, off its pivot, or blocked by a displaced cabin filter or debris
- Open circuit or short to ground in the wiring between the climate module and the actuator
- Corroded, loose or partially seated connector at the actuator
- Blown fuse or poor supply to the climate control module
- Failed output driver inside the module
How to fix it
- Command the recirculation actuator with a scan tool output test and listen for movement behind the dash
- Remove the actuator and check by hand whether the flap moves freely through its full travel
- Measure the motor winding resistance and check the control wires for continuity and for a short to ground
- With the actuator connected and being driven, check for a valid command voltage at the connector
- Inspect the connector for corrosion, backed-out terminals and previous repairs
- Replace the actuator if it is seized or its winding is out of specification, and repair or replace a broken flap
- Refit, run the HVAC actuator calibration/initialisation procedure, clear the code and verify the door moves on command
