What does it mean?
B1227 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Open in the Outside Air Temperature Sensor Circuit .
Symptoms
- The outside temperature display shows dashes, a fixed value, or an obviously wrong number
- The ice or frost warning never appears, even in freezing weather
- Automatic climate control chooses uncomfortable blower and temperature settings
- The AC compressor may refuse to engage because the module thinks it is too cold outside
- Defrost performance is inconsistent
Likely causes
- Cut or broken wire in the front harness, which is very exposed to stone impact and road debris
- Ambient sensor connector corroded, water filled, or left unplugged after bumper or radiator work
- Internally open thermistor inside the ambient sensor
- Sensor pigtail damaged by a front-end impact or curb strike
- Rodent damage to the harness in the front bumper area
- Failed input in the module that reads the ambient sensor
How to fix it
- Read the ambient temperature in live data; an open circuit usually shows an extreme value or a substitute reading
- Inspect the sensor behind the front bumper or grille for impact damage and check its connector for water and corrosion
- Unplug the sensor and measure resistance across its terminals, where an infinite reading confirms an open thermistor
- Jumper the two connector pins and watch live data; if the value jumps to the hot end, the wiring and module are good
- Trace the front harness for cut, pulled, or chewed wires and repair with sealed splices
- Replace the sensor if it measures open, clear the code, and confirm the display tracks real outside temperature
