What does it mean?
B1234 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: A Short in the Driver's Air Mix Control Motor Circuit .
Symptoms
- Driver side temperature is stuck at one extreme and cannot be adjusted
- Repeated clicking or knocking from behind the dash, often loudest just after start-up
- The blend position in live data does not follow the commanded value
- The passenger side may still work normally on dual zone systems
- The fault returns quickly after being cleared
Likely causes
- Control wire chafed against a bracket behind the dash and shorted to ground
- Internally shorted actuator motor, typically after the door jammed and the motor stalled
- Blend door binding on a broken flap or foreign object, forcing the motor to draw excessive current
- Water from a windshield leak or a blocked evaporator drain entering the actuator connector
- Harness pinched between the HVAC case and a mounting bracket
- Control wire shorted to battery voltage from an adjacent circuit in the same loom
How to fix it
- Listen behind the dash while sweeping the temperature setting to locate a clicking or stalled actuator
- Unplug the actuator; if the code changes to an open fault, the actuator itself is shorted
- Measure the motor windings, where a near-zero resistance confirms an internal short
- Remove the actuator and move the blend door by hand to confirm it swings freely from stop to stop
- Inspect the harness for chafe and pinch points and check the connector for water intrusion
- Replace the actuator, then calibrate the climate module and verify that vent temperature follows the setting
