Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Read the console air mix feedback value while sweeping the rear temperature setting

What does it mean?

B1261 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Air Mix Potentiometer Short (High)-Console .

Symptoms

  • Console or rear zone temperature is stuck at one extreme
  • Rear passengers get only hot or only cold air whatever they select
  • The feedback value in live data is pegged at maximum and does not follow commands
  • The actuator may click repeatedly under the console
  • Front zone temperature control still works normally

Likely causes

  • Shorted or worn wiper track inside the console air mix actuator potentiometer
  • Feedback signal wire shorted to the reference voltage in the console harness
  • Missing or high resistance ground on the console actuator circuit, pushing the feedback high
  • Liquid spilled into the centre console reaching the actuator connector
  • Harness pinched under the console when it was last reassembled
  • Reference or input circuit fault inside the climate control module

How to fix it

  1. Read the console air mix feedback value while sweeping the rear temperature setting
  2. Remove the console trim and inspect the actuator connector for spilled liquid and corrosion
  3. Measure the reference voltage and the ground quality at the actuator connector with the ignition on
  4. Check the feedback wire for a short to the reference circuit with both ends disconnected
  5. Measure the actuator potentiometer through its travel; a pegged or erratic reading condemns it
  6. Repair the wiring or replace the actuator, then run the climate calibration procedure
