What does it mean?
B1495 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: BTS (Belt-Tension Sensor) Defect .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on
- Passenger airbag OFF indicator behaving incorrectly with a child seat installed or with an adult seated
- Occupant classification data in the scan tool stuck at one value
- Belt reminder chime for the passenger side operating at the wrong times
Likely causes
- Failed belt tension sensor built into the passenger belt lower anchor
- Anchor bolt loose, overtightened or fitted without the correct spacer, loading the sensor incorrectly
- Sensor pigtail chafed, pinched under the seat, or its connector unplugged
- Corrosion in the anchor area connector from spilled drinks or a water leak
- Belt webbing twisted or trapped, holding a permanent tension the sensor cannot zero
- Sensor never rezeroed after belt, seat or trim replacement
- Seat swap or aftermarket belt assembly fitted without the tension sensor
How to fix it
- Check first that the belt is not twisted, trapped in the seat frame or routed through a child seat under permanent tension
- Inspect the lower anchor: correct bolt, correct spacer, tightened to the specified torque and free to pivot
- Watch the tension value in live data with the belt slack and then with tension applied by hand
- Unplug and inspect the connector near the anchor for corrosion, moisture and damaged terminals
- Trace the pigtail under the seat for pinching through the full seat travel
- Perform the belt tension sensor zero calibration with the belt released
- Replace the belt assembly containing the tension sensor if the reading stays dead or out of range, then recalibrate
