Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on with the restraint system disabled
- Code appears immediately after airbag module replacement or collision repair work
- Module may report implausible acceleration or orientation data
- Fault will not clear regardless of how many times it is erased
Likely causes
- Mounting bolts loose, missing or not tightened to the specified torque

- Configuration or coding not completed after the module was replaced
How to fix it
- Confirm the fitted module part number is correct for the vehicle and equipment level
- Remove the module and inspect the bracket for distortion, corrosion or previous accident damage
- Clean the mounting surface and make sure nothing such as carpet, matting or a wire is trapped underneath
- Refit the module the right way round, following the direction arrow or dowel, and torque all bolts to specification
- Check that the main connector is pushed fully home and its lever or lock is engaged
- Complete the required configuration, coding and calibration procedure after installation
- Clear the code, cycle the ignition and confirm the warning lamp completes its self-test and goes out
