What does it mean?
B1611 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Ambient Light Sensor 1 Input Circuit High .
Symptoms
- Rear wiper does not respond to the switch at all
- Rear wiper runs in the wrong mode, for example intermittent when continuous is selected
- Rear wash does not trigger the wipe cycle that should follow it
- The wiper works sometimes and stops when the stalk is moved or the column is bumped
- On the light sensor variant, automatic headlamps stay off at night or the dash stays at full brightness
Likely causes
- Worn or dirty contacts in the rear wiper section of the stalk switch
- Moisture and corrosion inside the stalk connector behind the steering column
- Chafed or broken wire between the stalk and the module
- Loose or partly seated column connector after steering, airbag or clockspring work
- Poor ground or unstable reference feeding the switch
- Module input stage failure
- On applications where this code refers to lighting control, an ambient light sensor signal reading high from an open circuit, a short to voltage or a disconnected sensor
How to fix it
- Watch the rear wiper mode input in live data while stepping the stalk through every position and note the positions that do not register
- Test the stalk switch for continuity between positions at its own connector before replacing it
- Inspect the connector behind the column for corrosion, moisture and bent pins
- Check the loom for chafe where it passes the column bracket and the tilt mechanism
- Verify the module supply and ground with a voltage drop test
- Replace the stalk switch only after it fails the continuity test, and leave the module for last
- On the light sensor variant, back-probe the sensor for an open circuit and confirm the reference voltage at its connector
