What does it mean?
B1613 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Panel Illumination Control Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- Rear wiper runs by itself or will not switch off
- Rear wiper starts sweeping as soon as the ignition is turned on
- Rear wiper fuse blows repeatedly
- Rear wash triggers without any input from the driver
- Blade drags across a dry screen and smears or scratches it
- On the illumination variant, dash lighting is very dim or completely out
Likely causes
- Mode select wire chafed against a powered circuit behind the steering column
- Stalk switch shorted internally in one or more positions
- Moisture inside the stalk bridging a live contact to the mode signal
- Aftermarket accessory wired into the column loom and back-feeding the circuit
- Connector terminal displaced onto a powered pin
- Module input clamp damaged after the short
- On applications where this code refers to panel lighting, an illumination control output reading low from a shorted driver or a short to ground on the lamp circuit
How to fix it
- Unplug the stalk switch and see whether the wiper stops and the code stops resetting, which separates switch from harness at once
- With the switch unplugged, measure the input at the module and look for battery voltage that should not be there
- Inspect the column loom for chafe against a live wire, and check every aftermarket tap in that area
- Dry and inspect the stalk assembly for water ingress and corrosion between its contacts
- Repair the damaged section and re-route it clear of powered wires
- Replace the stalk switch only if it measures shorted with the connector removed
- On the illumination variant, check the illumination output for a short to ground and inspect the lamps and their drivers
