What does it mean?
B1711 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat Driver Front Up Switch Circuit Short to Battery .
Symptoms
- The front of the seat cushion rises by itself or keeps moving after the switch is released
- Front tilt up function does not respond at all while the rest of the seat works
- Seat motors run briefly when the vehicle is unlocked or the ignition is switched on
- Memory seat recall stops before it reaches the stored position
- Driving position cannot be set correctly, affecting comfort and pedal reach
Likely causes
- Liquid contamination inside the seat switch pack shorting the front up contact to a live terminal
- Seat harness rubbing on the seat frame or the rail mechanism and reaching a live wire
- Wiring crushed under the seat by luggage, floor mats or objects pushed under the seat from the rear
- Terminal damage in the under seat connector allowing two circuits to touch
- Additional wiring for seat accessories run into the same loom without proper insulation
- Water in the footwell from a leaking seal, a blocked drain or a heater matrix, reaching the seat connectors
- Failed input circuit in the seat or body control module
How to fix it
- Disconnect the seat switch and see whether the fault clears, which identifies the switch when it does
- Inspect the switch and its connector for spilled liquid, residue and corrosion
- Measure the front up input voltage at rest and while the switch is held, and compare with a movement that works correctly
- Slide the seat fully forward and back while monitoring the input, because a chafed wire may only short in part of the travel
- Check the under seat harness where it bends with the rails and where it passes the frame, looking for crushed or exposed conductors
- Remove any aftermarket wiring added to the seat circuit and check the carpet for moisture
- Repair the wiring or fit a new switch, then test every seat movement and relearn the memory positions where they are fitted
