What does it mean?
B1715 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat Driver Front Down Switch Circuit Short to Battery .
Symptoms
- The front of the seat cushion tilts down on its own or refuses to move at all
- Front-down adjustment is dead while the other seat directions still work
- Memory recall aborts part way and the seat never reaches the stored position
- Code resets immediately after clearing and the seat module may lock the motors out
- Slight parasitic drain if the motor circuit is held energised with the ignition off
Likely causes
- Liquid spill or dirt inside the seat switch pack bridging the front-down contact to the 12 V feed
- Switch contact welded or mechanically stuck in the applied position
- Signal wire under the seat chafed against the seat frame or rail alongside a powered wire
- Water in the under-seat connector from wet carpet, corroding and bridging terminals
- Aftermarket wiring (heater, audio, dashcam feed) spliced into the seat harness and back-feeding the input
- Internal fault in the driver seat or memory seat module
How to fix it
- Read the stored codes and check on the scan tool whether the switch input is stuck high right now
- Wiggle-test the seat harness through the full travel of the seat while watching the live switch state
- Unplug the switch pack: if the input returns to normal the switch is at fault, if it stays high the wiring or module is
- With the switch disconnected, measure the signal wire against ground; battery voltage there confirms a short to a powered circuit
- Inspect the under-seat connectors and the loom where it bends at the rail for chafe, corrosion or crushed terminals
- Clean or replace the switch pack and repair damaged harness properly instead of taping over it
- Replace the seat or memory module only after switch and wiring are proven good
