What does it mean?
B1723 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat Driver Rearward Switch Circuit Short to Battery .
Symptoms
- Seat travels rearward on its own or cannot be moved back at all
- Only the rearward direction is affected; other adjustments still work
- Seat runs to the rear stop and the motor stalls audibly
- Memory recall stops half way and the stored position is never reached
- Code sets again shortly after clearing, often while the seat is being moved
Likely causes
- Sticky residue or spilled liquid inside the switch pack bridging the rearward contact to the supply
- Rearward rocker contact worn, welded or jammed by dirt
- Signal wire chafed where the loom crosses the seat rail and rubs a powered conductor
- Under-seat connector corroded by moisture from a wet floor covering
- Seat loom crushed by luggage or a child seat anchor pushed under the seat
- Seat control or memory module output stage failure
How to fix it
- Read the codes and observe the rearward switch state live with nobody touching the control
- Wiggle the seat loom through the full range of seat travel and watch for the input to go high
- Unplug the switch pack and see whether the input returns to its rest value
- With the switch unplugged, measure the signal wire to ground for battery voltage to confirm the short
- Inspect the loom at the rail, the floor clips and the under-seat connector for chafe, crushing and corrosion
- Clean or replace the switch pack and repair the shorted wire with a proper insulated joint
- Replace the seat control module last, once switch and harness are known good
