What does it mean?
B1724 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Inflatable curtain airbag rear-Driver resistance circuit short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp lit continuously
- The rear curtain on the driver side is disabled and will not deploy
- Code stays present even after clearing, with the fault registered as current
- Fault may follow rear trim, headliner or cargo area work
- Additional codes from the same roof-rail loom stored alongside
Likely causes
- Squib wiring chafed against the roof rail, pillar bracket or a seat belt anchor bolt
- Wire trapped under a trim clip or headliner bracket and cut through to bare metal
- Water from a leaking rear seal or sunroof drain corroding the pillar connector and grounding a pin
- Connector damaged or pins pushed back after rear trim or headliner removal
- Inflator with an internal short between the squib element and its metal housing
- Loom damaged during a previous rear-end or side repair
- Restraint control module output shorted internally
How to fix it
- Record all SRS codes and note whether this one is current or historic
- Turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait the required stand-down period
- Unplug the curtain squib connector and fit an approved load tool in its place
- With the module connector released, check both circuit wires for continuity to ground; a low reading proves the short
- Trace the loom along the roof rail and rear pillar, inspecting every clip, bracket and belt anchor for cut insulation
- Inspect the pillar for water tracks and repair the leak before the wiring
- Repair the harness with SRS repair leads; replace the curtain inflator only if the short is inside it
