What does it mean?
B1933 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Passenger-Side Air Bag Module (Inflator No.1) Circuit Resistance High .
Symptoms
- Air bag warning lamp on continuously with the passenger air bag disabled
- Passenger air bag status indicator may behave abnormally
- Fault typically appears straight after dash, glove box or audio installation work
- Code can be intermittent, returning after driving on rough roads
- Restraint system warning message displayed to the driver
Likely causes
- Air bag connector behind the glove box not fully seated or its locking clip not engaged, often after glove box or audio work
- Fretting corrosion or pin wear in the passenger air bag connector
- Internal open in the passenger air bag inflator
- Broken conductor in the dash harness where it passes a bracket or a sharp edge
- Terminal pushed back in the housing after the connector was forced
- Water damage from a leaking windscreen or blocked air conditioning drain corroding the terminals
- Restraint control module connector or output fault
How to fix it
- Complete the air bag safety procedure before touching the passenger air bag connector
- Ask about recent interior work, since a disturbed connector is by far the most common cause
- Remove the glove box and inspect the air bag connector for a partly seated housing, an unlocked clip, corrosion and pin fretting
- Reseat the connector firmly, clear the code and retest before replacing any part
- Fit the manufacturer approved test load in place of the air bag to determine whether the open is in the module or the harness
- Trace the dash harness for a broken conductor at brackets and sharp edges, flexing it while monitoring
- Replace the passenger air bag module if the open is internal, and treat the restraint control module as the last step
