What does it mean?
B1942 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Power Liftgate Position Sensor 2 Circuit Performance .
Symptoms
- Power liftgate stops partway, reverses on its own or refuses to run in one direction
- Gate can only be worked by hand while the powered function is disabled
- Repeated warning chime while the gate is moving
- Gate closes but does not cinch, or overshoots and slams
- Remote and interior liftgate buttons ignored
Likely causes
- Contaminated or failing Hall effect position sensor inside the liftgate drive unit
- Damaged magnet ring or a slipping clutch in the drive unit, so the counts no longer match real movement
- Binding hinges, tired gas struts or a bent spindle making the gate move slower than the module expects
- Intermittent connection in the hinge area harness that flexes every time the gate is used
- Water and corrosion in the drive unit or module connector
- Weak battery or low system voltage distorting the sensor readings
- Liftgate calibration never carried out after a battery disconnect, module or drive unit replacement
How to fix it
- Check battery state of charge and charging voltage first, weak power on its own can set liftgate performance codes
- Watch the position sensor 2 count in live data while moving the gate slowly by hand and look for dropouts or frozen values
- Compare sensor 1 and sensor 2 patterns, both should change smoothly and in step
- Disconnect the drive unit and check the sensor supply, ground and signal wires for continuity while flexing the hinge harness
- Release the drive and move the gate manually to feel for binding hinges, weak struts or a damaged spindle
- Inspect and dry all connectors, repairing corroded terminals
- Run the liftgate initialisation or relearn procedure, and only then replace the sensor or drive unit if the signal is still faulty
