What does it mean?
B1967 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Power Liftgate Open Direction Overcurrent .
Symptoms
- Gate starts to open then stops or drops back down
- Powered opening works only when the gate is helped by hand
- Straining or grinding noise from the drive unit
- Fault repeats mostly in cold weather or with a loaded roof rack
- Gate will not hold in the open position once it has been raised
Likely causes
- Weak or leaking gas struts and spindle springs that no longer help lift the gate
- Binding or dry hinges, or a hinge distorted by a light impact
- Roof rack load, ice, or an obstruction such as a garage door or bike carrier restricting travel
- Worn drive motor or gearbox with high internal friction
- Seals frozen to the body in cold weather, greatly increasing initial effort
- Low battery voltage or a high resistance supply making the motor draw more current for the same work
- Vehicle parked on a steep slope, which is a normal protective shutdown rather than a defect
How to fix it
- Confirm the vehicle is level and the gate is free of ice, snow and any obstruction before testing
- Release the drive and open the gate by hand, feeling for binding and checking that the struts hold it up on their own
- Check the drive motor current in live data during an open cycle if the tool supports it
- Measure supply voltage at the drive unit while it runs, a large drop points at the feed, ground or battery rather than the motor
- Inspect hinges, spindle drives and mounting points for damage, dry pivots and previous accident repairs
- Renew tired gas struts or spindles as a set so effort stays even on both sides
- Replace the drive unit only after the mechanism has been proved free, then clear the code and run several open cycles
