What does it mean?
B2479 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Park Brake Switch Circuit Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- The park brake warning lamp stays on with the lever fully released
- A brake warning chime sounds while driving
- Some driver assistance or cruise functions refuse to engage because the vehicle believes the park brake is applied
- Automatic transmission or stop start behaviour is affected on some vehicles
- The warning appeared after a car wash or a drink spill in the console
Likely causes
- Park brake switch stuck closed or its plunger held down by the lever mechanism
- Switch signal wire chafed against the console frame or the handbrake bracket
- Liquid spilled into the console reaching the switch and bridging its contacts
- Corroded connector at the switch after water entered through the console
- Harness pinched under the console after previous trim removal
- Park brake cable adjustment leaving the lever slightly raised so the switch never releases
- Grounded input inside the body control module or instrument cluster
How to fix it
- Release the lever fully and watch the park brake switch state in live data; it should change to released
- Unplug the switch and check whether the state changes, which separates the switch from the wiring
- With the switch disconnected, measure resistance from the signal wire to ground to find a harness short
- Inspect the switch plunger and the lever ratchet for a mechanical hold down and check the cable adjustment
- Remove the console trim and inspect the loom for pinch damage and moisture
- Dry and clean or replace a contaminated connector and repair any grounded wire
- Replace the park brake switch when it is internally shorted, then confirm the warning lamp behaves correctly through a full lever cycle
