Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Remove the left rear lamp assembly and check for water inside, a failed lens seal or a plugged drain

What does it mean?

B2523 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Turn Signal LH Rear Circuit Short to Ground .

Symptoms

  • Left rear indicator does not flash and may fail with the hazard lights too
  • Flasher rate changes or the indicator relay clicks without any light output
  • Fuse feeding the rear signals blows and takes other rear functions with it
  • Fault worsens in wet weather and improves after the car dries out
  • Lamp outage warning stays on even after a new bulb is fitted
  • Rear lamp lens shows condensation or standing water

Likely causes

  • Water sitting in the left rear lamp housing and bridging the socket contacts to the ground shell
  • Corroded socket with the feed contact collapsed onto the metal body of the socket
  • Chafed wire in the rear harness where it passes the wheel arch, hinge grommet or a body seam
  • Trailer or tow bar wiring spliced into the rear indicator circuit and shorting when wet
  • Wrong bulb fitted, or a two-filament bulb seated incorrectly so both contacts touch
  • Crushed harness after rear bodywork or from cargo in the boot
  • Shorted output stage inside the module driving the rear lamps

How to fix it

  1. Remove the left rear lamp assembly and check for water inside, a failed lens seal or a plugged drain
  2. Inspect the socket and bulb base closely for corrosion and a contact touching the shell
  3. Unplug the lamp connector and measure resistance from the indicator feed pin to ground on both sides of the connector
  4. Trace the rear harness along the wheel arch and hinge grommet, flexing it while watching the meter
  5. Disconnect any trailer socket wiring and retest to confirm whether the short comes from the accessory circuit
  6. Replace the corroded socket, dry and reseal the housing, and refit the correct bulb
  7. Test the module output only after the circuit has been proven clean end to end
