Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

What does it mean?

B2553 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Right Head Lamp (Low Beam) Circuit Open .

Symptoms

  • Right low beam is dead but the fuse is intact, which distinguishes an open from a short
  • Bulb outage warning displayed as soon as the lights are switched on
  • Beam pattern is clearly asymmetric with the road unlit on the right
  • Lamp sometimes works after the connector is wiggled, then fails again
  • Right high beam still works, since it is a separate output
  • Automatic lighting may keep the remaining lamps on without any fuse blowing

Likely causes

  • Right low beam bulb burnt out or seated loosely in its holder
  • Corroded or heat-damaged socket contacts, common on lamps that have run hot for a long time
  • Broken wire in the front harness or a terminal backed out of the headlamp connector
  • Headlamp connector not plugged in fully after grille, bumper or radiator work
  • Weak ground for the right headlamp, which the module also interprets as an open load
  • Ballast or LED driver failure that stops drawing current on discharge and LED systems
  • Open output driver inside the body control module or lighting module

How to fix it

  1. Inspect the bulb first; a broken filament or blackened glass explains the code immediately
  2. Check that the connector is fully latched and that no terminal has pushed back in the housing
  3. Back-probe the low beam feed with the lights on and confirm supply voltage is present
  4. If voltage is good, test the ground side by measuring voltage drop from the lamp ground to the body
  5. With no voltage, check continuity of the feed wire back to the module or relay and look for a broken conductor
  6. On discharge or LED lamps, verify the ballast or driver receives power and ground before replacing it
  7. Repair the open, refit a correct-specification bulb, clear the code and verify both low beams operate
