What does it mean?
C1132 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Engine Signal 3 .
Symptoms
- Traction control and stability control warning lamps illuminated
- Those systems no longer intervene, so the wheels spin more easily on a loose surface
- ABS may still work while the engine intervention part of the system is lost
- Reduced power or a limp behaviour on vehicles that fall back to a safe mode
- Communication codes stored in several modules at once
- Fault comes and goes with vibration or over rough roads
Likely causes
- Engine control module (ECM) has its own stored faults and stops sending the value
- Break or high resistance in the signal line between the engine and chassis modules
- CAN bus wiring damaged, with a wire chafed, cut or shorted to ground
- Corroded connector or a terminal pushed back at either module
- Poor shared ground so the two modules do not agree on reference
- Software or configuration mismatch after one of the modules was replaced
- Failed input stage inside the receiving control module
How to fix it
- Scan every module and note which ones store communication or engine codes
- Repair engine management faults first if the engine control module is reporting its own problems
- Check the network and signal wiring for continuity, shorts to ground and shorts to battery voltage
- Measure CAN bus resistance across the two lines with the ignition off to check the network
- Inspect both module connectors for corrosion, moisture and loose terminals
- Clean and tighten the shared ground points
- Confirm both modules carry matching software and configuration before replacing either one
