What does it mean?
C1262 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Temperature Sensor Failure .
Symptoms
- Chassis system warning lamp for ABS, stability control or electric steering depending on the system
- Function reduced or cutting in and out while the module protects itself from heat
- Temperature value in live data implausible, stuck at an extreme or not changing while driving
- Normal operation returns after a cool-down period when the overheating is genuine
- Fault may only appear when cold, or only when the system is hot
Likely causes
- Open or short circuit in the wiring of the temperature sensor monitored by the chassis control module
- Corroded, wet or loose sensor connector
- Sensor drifted out of range so the reported value is no longer plausible
- Genuine overheating of the monitored component, such as a hard-working pump or steering motor, rather than an electrical fault
- Poor module ground shifting the sensor reference level
- Damaged harness where it passes a hot or moving part
- Control module input fault
How to fix it
- Read the temperature value with the vehicle cold and compare it with ambient temperature; a large gap points at the sensor or its wiring
- Inspect the connector for moisture, green corrosion and spread terminals
- Measure the sensor resistance and compare it with the specification at a known temperature
- With the sensor unplugged, test the circuit for open, short to ground and short to voltage
- Confirm the monitored component is not genuinely overheating because of binding, a restriction or continuous operation
- Repair the harness or replace the sensor or the assembly that contains it
- Consider the control module only after the circuit and component checks pass
