First step

Measure the valve coil resistance at the hydraulic unit pins; an open reading confirms the coil or its internal connection

What does it mean?

C1270 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Traction Control Inlet Valve Coil Circuit Open . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.

Symptoms

  • ABS, traction and stability warning lamps on at start-up
  • Traction control does not intervene during wheel spin
  • Pedal feels normal in ordinary braking but ABS may be inhibited
  • Fault often sets during the module self-test right after the ignition is switched on
  • Code stays current and cannot be cleared while the circuit is open

Likely causes

  • Broken winding inside the traction control inlet valve coil, giving an infinite resistance reading
  • Open circuit in the harness between the ABS module and the modulator connector
  • Terminal backed out of the valve block connector so contact is lost
  • Green corrosion in the connector creating an effectively open joint
  • Connector not fully latched after previous work on the hydraulic unit
  • Broken pin or cracked solder joint at the module connector
  • Module output driver open internally (least likely)

How to fix it

  1. Measure the valve coil resistance at the hydraulic unit pins; an open reading confirms the coil or its internal connection
  2. Compare that reading with the neighbouring valve coils to establish the expected value
  3. Inspect the connector for pushed-back terminals, broken locks and corrosion, and reseat it fully
  4. Check continuity from the modulator connector to the corresponding module pin
  5. Wiggle the harness at the modulator while monitoring resistance to catch an intermittent open
  6. Repair or replace the damaged harness section and protect it from road spray
  7. Replace the hydraulic modulator when the coil itself is proven open
