What does it mean?
C1413 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Front Speed Sensor RH Output Malfunction .
Symptoms
- ABS, traction and stability lamps on, frequently coming and going rather than staying lit
- Right front wheel speed in live data flickers, lags or drops out at certain speeds
- ABS activating unexpectedly at low speed or during gentle braking
- Speedometer needle twitching on vehicles that use this signal
- Cruise control cutting out during a drive
Likely causes
- Right front wheel speed sensor producing a weak, noisy or intermittent output
- Metal filings or brake dust on the sensor tip narrowing the air gap
- Cracked, rusted or loose tone ring so the output drops out once per revolution
- Air gap out of specification because of a worn bearing or a sensor not seated fully
- Chafed sensor wiring or a shield that has lost its ground, letting electrical noise into the signal
- Corroded connector in the wheel arch producing a high-resistance signal path
- Internal sensor failure or a failing module input
How to fix it
- Watch all four wheel speeds during a road test at several speeds; the faulty corner is the one that flickers or lags
- Remove the sensor and clean the tip and its bore, then check the air gap and reseat it fully
- Inspect the tone ring through a full wheel rotation for cracks, rust and a loose fit on the hub
- Check wheel bearing play, since a worn bearing lets the air gap vary as the wheel turns
- Inspect the harness and the shield ground for chafing and corrosion, and wiggle test while watching live data
- Measure sensor output with a meter or scope where possible and compare it with the opposite corner
- Replace the sensor, tone ring or hub assembly according to the results, then confirm a clean signal on a road test
