What does it mean?

C1418 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Front Differential Control Circuit High .

Symptoms

  • Differential lock or four wheel drive warning lamp on continuously
  • Front axle lock never engages when selected
  • Reduced traction off road or in snow with no obvious mechanical noise
  • Actuator stays silent when the lock is commanded
  • Fault often returns immediately after the code is cleared

Likely causes

  • Open circuit in the actuator control or ground wire, often a broken conductor inside the insulation
  • Disconnected, loose or backed out terminal at the front differential actuator connector
  • Corroded terminals creating very high resistance in the circuit
  • Internally open actuator winding
  • Short to battery voltage where the harness has rubbed against another live wire or the body
  • Blown fuse feeding the actuator supply
  • Failed output driver in the control module

How to fix it

  1. Read live data and freeze frame to confirm the circuit reads high or open
  2. Visually check the connector at the actuator for pushed back pins, corrosion and a broken lock
  3. Measure actuator resistance; an infinite reading confirms an open winding
  4. Check continuity from the module connector to the actuator connector on both wires
  5. With the module unplugged, look for battery voltage on the control wire, which proves a short to power
  6. Check the fuse and supply feed for that circuit
  7. Repair the wiring or replace the actuator, clear the code and verify lock engagement with a scan tool
