What does it mean?
P1190 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Throttle Inlet Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on, often as soon as the ignition is switched on
- Boost pressure limited and a clear loss of power
- Hesitation, flat spots and slow throttle response
- Rough idle in some cases
- Fuel consumption higher than normal
- Fault may be intermittent over bumps if a terminal is loose
Likely causes
- Open or high-resistance sensor ground circuit letting the signal rise to its maximum
- Broken signal wire between the sensor and the control module
- Signal circuit shorted to the 5 volt reference or to battery voltage
- Connector not fully seated, or a terminal pushed back in its housing
- Water ingress and corrosion in an exposed connector
- Internal sensor failure with the output stuck high
- Rarely, a control module input circuit fault
How to fix it
- With the ignition on, unplug the sensor and confirm the 5 volt reference on the reference pin
- Voltage-drop test the sensor ground; a high drop explains a signal stuck at maximum
- Check whether the live reading changes when the sensor is unplugged; no change indicates a wiring fault
- Measure the signal wire for continuity to the module and for a short to reference or battery voltage
- Inspect the connector for corrosion, moisture and pushed-back terminals; reseal after repair
- Repair the open ground or shorted signal wire and secure the harness
- Replace the sensor when the circuit measures good, then confirm it reads close to atmospheric pressure with the engine off
