What does it mean?
P1192 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard starting when cold, since the module fuels for a hot intake and the mixture is too lean
- Rough idle and hesitation until the engine warms up
- Reduced power and possible limited boost on charged engines
- Intake air temperature displayed on the scan tool sits at an unrealistically high fixed value
- Fuel consumption may change noticeably
Likely causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground where the harness has chafed against the intake or engine
- Internal short inside the temperature sensor
- Moisture or corrosion in the connector bridging the signal pin to the ground pin
- Sensor connector damaged or terminals touching after previous repair work
- Harness pinched during intake or air box removal
- Wrong sensor fitted with a much lower resistance than specified
- Rarely, a shorted module input circuit
How to fix it
- Read the intake air temperature in live data; a value pinned at the top of the scale confirms the low-voltage condition
- Unplug the sensor: if the reading jumps to the extreme cold end, the wiring is fine and the sensor is shorted internally
- If the reading stays high with the sensor unplugged, the signal wire is shorted to ground
- Measure resistance from the signal wire to chassis ground with both ends disconnected
- Inspect the connector for water, corrosion or bent terminals and dry it thoroughly
- Repair the shorted harness section and reroute it clear of sharp edges and hot parts
- Fit the correct sensor, clear the code and confirm the reading matches ambient temperature on a cold engine
