What does it mean?
P1202 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 2 Fuel Injection Circuit Electrical Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on, often accompanied by a cylinder 2 misfire code
- Rough, shaking idle and uneven running under light load
- Reduced power with hesitation when accelerating
- Longer cranking before the engine starts
- Fuel smell from the exhaust and increased consumption
- Vibration through the body at a stop with the engine idling
Likely causes
- Injector 2 winding open or internally shorted
- Corroded or damaged injector connector, or a terminal that has lost tension
- Control wire to injector 2 broken, shorted to ground or shorted to battery voltage
- Loss of power feed from a blown fuse, failed relay or corroded shared supply splice
- Harness insulation damaged where it runs over or beside the cylinder head
- Oil or coolant contamination of the connector from a leaking gasket
- Failed injector driver channel in the control module
How to fix it
- Read the codes and check the cylinder 2 misfire counter in live data
- Confirm supply voltage at the injector 2 connector with the ignition on
- Measure injector 2 winding resistance and compare it with the other injectors
- Check the control wire for continuity to the module and for shorts to ground and voltage
- Verify with a noid light or scope that the module is pulsing this injector while cranking
- Inspect the connector for oil, corrosion and loose terminals; repair or replace as needed
- Replace the cylinder 2 injector when it is proven faulty, then clear codes and verify smooth idle and zero misfire counts
