What does it mean?
P1205 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Fuel Pump Control Module Internal Performance .
Symptoms
- Extended cranking or an intermittent no-start
- Engine stalls and then restarts after a pause, or cuts out under load
- No audible pump prime when the ignition is switched on
- Surging at steady speed and loss of power on hills
- Check engine lamp on, often alongside fuel pressure codes
Likely causes
- Water or road salt entering the module and its connector, common where the module sits low in the vehicle or under the rear floor
- Corroded or high resistance ground for the module, which upsets its internal reference
- Supply voltage problems: weak battery, poor charging, corroded fuse box terminals
- Chafed harness between module and pump causing overcurrent that damages the output stage
- A worn pump motor drawing excessive current and overloading the module
- Internal electronic failure of the module itself
How to fix it
- Verify battery and charging voltage first, since a weak supply alone can set an internal performance fault
- Locate the module, unplug its connector and inspect for water, corrosion and burnt pins
- Perform a voltage drop test on the module ground while the pump is running
- Connect a gauge and watch whether rail pressure follows the commanded pump speed on the scan tool
- Inspect the harness between module and pump for chafe points and repair any damage
- Measure pump current draw; a motor pulling above specification will keep destroying modules
- Replace the module only after supply, ground and pump current all test correct, then carry out any required relearn
