What does it mean?
P1241 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Throttle Valve Control Motor 1 Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on and the vehicle drops into limp mode
- Sharply reduced power, with the engine held at a low fixed speed
- Idle too high, too low or hunting
- Throttle response is delayed or absent when the pedal is pressed
- Vehicle may run only at the default throttle opening and refuse to accelerate
Likely causes
- Open or shorted motor winding inside the electronic throttle body
- Chafed or broken wiring between the module and the throttle motor
- Corroded, wet or loose terminals in the throttle body connector
- Heavy carbon build-up making the throttle plate stick, so the motor draws excessive current
- Blown fuse feeding the electronic throttle circuit
- Return spring or gear train damage inside the throttle body
- Failed motor driver stage inside the control module
How to fix it
- Read all throttle and pedal codes together, since the module usually stores several
- Inspect the throttle body connector for corrosion, water and pushed-back terminals
- Check the electronic throttle fuse and the supply at the throttle body
- Measure the motor winding resistance across the two motor pins and check for a short to the housing
- Remove the throttle body and check that the plate moves freely, then clean carbon from the bore
- Test the motor circuit wiring for continuity and for shorts to ground or battery
- Renew the throttle body if the motor is open, shorted or mechanically stiff, then carry out the throttle relearn
- Check the module driver output only after the wiring and throttle body have been proven
