What does it mean?
P1247 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Accelerator Position Sensor 2 Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- The MIL is on, often together with a pedal correlation code
- Reduced power mode with the engine limited to a low rev ceiling
- Poor or delayed throttle response, the engine sometimes only idling
- Cruise control and torque based assistance functions inoperative
- The fault comes and goes when the pedal is pressed hard or the carpet is disturbed
Likely causes
- Open circuit or high resistance in the sensor 2 signal path between pedal and module
- Sensor 2 signal shorted to ground, to its own reference or to another circuit in the loom
- Separate 5 volt reference or ground for the second track lost or intermittent
- Internal wear or contamination on the second sensor track inside the pedal unit
- Water, cleaning fluid or floor mat pressure damaging the pedal connector
- Repair splices or a badly fitted accessory tapped into the pedal wiring
- Control module input fault when all external wiring checks good
How to fix it
- On live data watch both pedal tracks together; sensor 2 normally follows sensor 1 at a fixed ratio, so note where the second signal jumps or drops out
- Inspect the pedal connector and loom for moisture, corroded pins and wires pinched under the trim
- Measure the reference voltage and ground dedicated to the second track with the ignition on
- Back-probe the sensor 2 signal and record its voltage from rest to wide open pedal
- Test the sensor 2 wire for continuity and for shorts to ground or voltage with both ends disconnected
- Remove any additional device spliced into the pedal circuit and retest
- Replace the accelerator pedal module if the sensor track itself is proven faulty, then clear codes and confirm both tracks now sweep together
