What does it mean?
P1305 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Coil 2 Primary Feedback Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on, sometimes flashing under load
- Misfire on cylinder 2 with a rough, shaking idle
- Hesitation, stumble and power loss on acceleration
- Hard starting and occasional cut-out while driving
- Fuel smell from the exhaust and increased consumption
Likely causes
- Coil 2 primary winding or built-in igniter failed
- Feedback or trigger wire between coil 2 and the ignition module open, shorted or high resistance
- Coil connector corroded, loose or sitting in an oil-filled plug well
- No battery feed to the coil because of a blown fuse, failed relay or damaged supply wire
- Poor ignition system ground or a corroded ground stud
- Faulty ignition control module output for that coil
- Engine control module driver fault, only after the wiring and coil are cleared
How to fix it
- Read the freeze frame and use the misfire counters to confirm which cylinder is down
- Swap coil 2 with a coil from another cylinder and see whether the code moves with the part
- With the key on, confirm battery voltage and a good ground at the coil connector
- Check the trigger and feedback wires end to end for continuity and shorts
- Inspect the plug well for oil and moisture, check the boot for carbon tracking and read the spark plug
- Replace the coil or repair the circuit fault, then re-evaluate the ignition control module if needed
- Clear the codes and verify on a road test that the misfire counters stay at zero
