What does it mean?
P1335 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Engine stalls without warning and may restart after a short wait
- Long cranking or a complete no-start when the fault is present
- Tachometer needle drops to zero or jumps around while driving
- Sudden misfire-like cut-outs and hesitation under load
- Check engine light on, sometimes with misfire or fuel trim codes stored at the same time
Likely causes
- CKP sensor breaking down when it gets hot, which is the classic pattern for a stall that clears after cooling
- Debris, metal filings or a magnetised deposit on the sensor tip, changing the air gap
- Damaged, cracked or loose reluctor ring, or missing teeth on the trigger wheel
- Chafed or broken signal wire, often where the harness bends near the bellhousing or crosses the engine mount
- Corroded, loose or water-filled CKP connector
- Missing supply voltage or a poor sensor ground caused by a broken splice or a corroded ground point
- Failed input circuit in the PCM (powertrain control module) or a damaged module pin
How to fix it
- Read the freeze frame first and note whether the fault set at operating temperature, which supports a heat-related sensor failure
- Inspect the sensor connector and harness for oil, coolant, chafe marks and pushed-back terminals; wiggle-test the harness with the engine idling
- Watch engine rpm in live data while cranking or driving; a drop to zero while the engine is turning confirms signal loss
- Check sensor supply voltage and ground at the connector, then verify the signal circuit continuity to the module
- Remove the sensor and check the tip for metal debris and the mounting bore for damage or a wrong-length sensor
- Scope the sensor output if possible and look for missing pulses that indicate reluctor ring tooth damage
- Replace the CKP sensor if it fails the tests, then clear the code and confirm the rpm signal stays stable hot and cold
