What does it mean?
P1460 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Wide Open Throttle A/C Cutout Relay Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with the code stored
- Compressor stays engaged during hard acceleration, so the engine feels sluggish at full throttle
- A/C may not engage at all, or drops out unexpectedly
- Intermittent loss of cabin cooling
- Small rpm dip or hesitation when the compressor loads the engine under full throttle
Likely causes
- Failed wide open throttle A/C cutoff relay, with an open coil or burnt contacts
- Corroded, loose or backed-out terminals in the relay socket or at the PCM (powertrain control module) connector
- Open, chafed or shorted wiring between the PCM and the relay coil
- Blown fuse feeding the relay or the compressor clutch circuit
- A/C compressor clutch coil drawing excessive current and burning the relay contacts
- Wrong relay fitted, with a different coil resistance or internal pin layout to the original part
- PCM output driver failure, only after the circuit has been proven good
How to fix it
- Read freeze frame data and note throttle angle and engine load at the moment the code set
- Inspect the relay socket and PCM connector for green corrosion, spread terminals and pushed-back pins
- Swap the cutoff relay with an identical relay from the same fuse box and see whether the fault follows it
- Check for battery voltage at the relay feed and continuity on the control wire back to the PCM
- Measure relay coil resistance and compare it with the specified value
- Command the relay on and off with a scan tool while watching compressor clutch current draw
- Repair damaged wiring or replace the relay; consider the PCM only last
