Intake Manifold Runner Control (Bank 2) Stuck Closed

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Look for the missing load in the circuit:

  • PPowertrain
  • 1Manufacturer-specific
  • 5Powertrain (Other)
  • 13Sequence number

What does it mean?

P1513 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Differentiated Intake Manifold Control Circuit Signal High .

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on while the engine runs smoothly
  • Weaker pull in one part of the rev range because the manifold stays in a single position
  • Acceleration feels lazy under load, especially uphill
  • Slight drop in fuel economy
  • No change in intake sound where the manifold normally switches
  • Idle quality and starting remain normal

Likely causes

  • Open circuit in the control wire, so the module only sees its own pull-up voltage
  • Terminal backed out of the actuator connector or a broken crimp
  • Open winding in the manifold flap solenoid or actuator motor
  • Short from the control wire to a supply voltage
  • Corroded ground for the actuator
  • Module output stage failure

How to fix it

  1. Compare the commanded and actual manifold flap status in live data
  2. Unplug the actuator and check for supply voltage, a clean ground and a plausible control voltage
  3. Measure the actuator winding resistance; an open reading explains the high signal
  4. Check the control wire for continuity to the module and for a short to a supply line
  5. Inspect the connector for backed-out terminals, corrosion and heat damage
  6. Replace the manifold flap actuator if the winding is open, or repair the harness
  7. Actuate the flap after the repair and confirm the position feedback follows the command
