Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Compare the faulty circuit with the healthy one:

  • PPowertrain
  • 1Manufacturer-specific
  • 5Powertrain (Other)
  • 32Sequence number

What does it mean?

P1532 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Camshaft Control Circuit Open .

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on with reduced torque, felt as an uneven pull between the two halves of the engine
  • Rough idle that may improve when the engine is fully warm
  • Rattling on start-up from the timing drive
  • Slow throttle response and higher fuel consumption
  • No solenoid operation noise on the affected circuit
  • Companion camshaft timing codes may also be present

Likely causes

  • Open winding in the camshaft control solenoid on that circuit
  • Terminal backed out of the connector or a connector not fully engaged after service
  • Broken conductor in the harness branch feeding that solenoid
  • Loss of supply voltage from a blown fuse or a corroded splice shared with the other solenoid
  • High resistance from corrosion in the connector after water or oil ingress
  • Poor ground for the actuator circuit
  • Module driver failure on that specific output

How to fix it

  1. Identify which solenoid belongs to the affected circuit from the wiring information for that engine
  2. Measure the winding resistance of both solenoids and compare them; an open reading identifies the failed one
  3. Check the connector for seating, corrosion and pushed-back terminals
  4. Check supply voltage and continuity on the control wire back to the module
  5. Inspect the shared splice or fuse if both circuits behave oddly
  6. Repair the harness or replace the solenoid on the affected circuit
  7. Command both solenoids after the repair and confirm each camshaft angle responds
