What does it mean?
P1537 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Differentiated Intake Manifold Potentiometer Voltage in Lower Diagnosis Range .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on with a normal idle
- Torque loss in part of the rev range because the manifold cannot switch
- Flat mid-range and a lazy response under load
- Small increase in fuel consumption
- No change in intake sound at the usual switch point
- In some cases the engine runs with reduced performance until the fault is repaired
Likely causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground or open, dragging the reading to the bottom of the scale
- Worn or dirty resistive track inside the potentiometer
- Broken flap linkage, leaving the sensor sitting against its lower stop
- Missing five volt reference from the module
- Corroded connector terminals at the potentiometer
- Leaking vacuum diaphragm or a split hose, so the flap never travels
- Module input circuit failure
How to fix it
- Read the potentiometer voltage in live data while the flap is actuated with a scan tool or moved by hand
- Check the five volt reference and the sensor ground at the connector with the ignition on
- Check the signal wire for a short to ground and for continuity back to the module
- Inspect the flap, its shaft and linkage for breakage, carbon build-up and seizure
- Test the vacuum actuator and its hoses with a hand vacuum pump
- Replace the potentiometer or the complete actuator unit if the signal is erratic or dead
- Repeat the actuation test after the repair and confirm the voltage sweeps smoothly across its range
