What does it mean?
P1565 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cruise Servo Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Cruise control cannot be engaged, or it disengages within a few seconds
- Speed control is inconsistent, with the vehicle surging or slowing on level road
- Cruise indicator lamp flashes or does not illuminate
- Check engine light on with the code stored
- Normal driving with the pedal remains unaffected
Likely causes
- Worn resistive track inside the servo position sensor, which is a wear item on high mileage vehicles
- Open or high resistance in the sensor signal, reference or ground wire
- Corroded connector at the cruise servo, particularly on units exposed to road spray
- Chafed harness where it passes a body seam or moves with the engine
- Loss of the reference voltage supplied by the control module
- Mechanically stuck servo or a seized linkage that holds the sensor at one position
- Failed input circuit inside the cruise control module
How to fix it
- Check the cruise enable inputs and confirm that a valid vehicle speed signal is present
- Inspect the servo connector for corrosion, water and pushed-back terminals, then reseat it
- Backprobe the sensor signal wire with the ignition on and observe the voltage while the servo is stroked
- Confirm the reference voltage and ground are within specification at the sensor connector
- Test the signal wire for continuity, and for shorts to ground and to battery voltage
- Check the servo linkage and cable for binding, and make sure the actuator returns freely
- Replace the servo assembly when the sensor output is erratic or dead, then verify operation on the road
