What does it mean?
P1568 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cruise Control System - SPS Circuit Indicated High .
Symptoms
- Cruise control refuses to engage, or cancels the moment it is set
- System locks out for the rest of the drive cycle and only resets after an ignition cycle
- Vehicle speed wanders when cruise briefly engages
- Cruise indicator flashes or does not light
- Check engine light on with the fault stored
Likely causes
- Open sensor ground return, which lets the signal float towards reference voltage
- Signal wire shorted to battery voltage or to the 5 V reference inside a damaged connector
- Corroded servo connector with green deposits bridging terminals
- Internally failed position sensor stuck at its upper limit
- Chafed harness where it crosses a bracket or bulkhead, contacting an adjacent live circuit
- Servo actuator jammed at full travel, so a genuine high reading is produced
- Faulty input circuit inside the cruise control module
How to fix it
- With the ignition on, backprobe the position signal wire and note whether it sits at reference voltage instead of the expected mid-range value
- Disconnect the servo and check whether the reading falls to zero, which separates a sensor fault from a wiring short
- Measure the sensor ground return for continuity and voltage drop back to the module
- Test the signal wire for a short to battery voltage and to the reference line with both ends disconnected
- Inspect the connector for corrosion bridging the pins and clean or repair the terminals
- Check the actuator for mechanical binding at full travel
- Replace the servo when the sensor is proven faulty, then clear the code and verify correct operation on the road
