What does it mean?
P1608 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: PCM Internal Circuit 'B' Malfunction .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on, with the fault reappearing very soon after clearing
- Multiple sensor codes appearing together with implausible live data values
- Limp mode, reduced power, poor throttle response
- Rough idle, stalling or difficulty starting
- Some scan tool data lists showing frozen or nonsense values
- Occasional complete loss of communication with the module
Likely causes
- Poor or corroded module grounds raising the internal reference
- Low battery voltage, a weak charging system or a voltage spike from jump starting
- Water ingress into the module connector, common where the module sits behind a wheel arch or low in the bulkhead
- A shorted sensor or actuator on that circuit group dragging the internal stage down
- Failed 5 V reference or driver section inside the module
- Corrupted software after an interrupted flash or a wrong calibration
- Age-related failure of internal components after heavy heat cycling
How to fix it
- Read all codes and check which sensors report values that are physically impossible
- Test battery condition and charging voltage; correct any supply problem first
- Measure module ground quality with a voltage-drop test and check every supply pin
- Inspect the module connector and mounting area for moisture and corrosion, then dry and reseal if needed
- Unplug the sensors on the suspect circuit one at a time and watch whether the module recovers
- Check the 5 V reference at several sensors; a collapsed reference points to a short rather than a dead module
- Reflash the module with the correct calibration, and replace and program it only if the fault persists with proven wiring
