What does it mean?
P1699 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Engine Torque Control Cut Signal Circuit Malfunction (High Input) .
Symptoms
- MIL on with harsh, jolting shifts under load
- Transmission locking into a fixed gear and refusing to change
- Driveline shock felt on every upshift
- Engine power feeling flat or inconsistent
- Additional communication codes stored in the transmission module
- Intermittent behaviour that follows road vibration
Likely causes
- Open circuit on the torque cut signal line between the two modules
- Short to battery positive on that circuit
- Terminal corroded or pushed back at either module connector
- Sending module with no power or ground, leaving the line unpulled
- Harness break where the loom crosses the bulkhead or a moving bracket
- Failed output driver in the module that issues the torque cut request
- Receiving module input circuit failure
How to fix it
- Scan both modules and identify which one reports the fault
- Find the torque cut circuit in the wiring diagram and check continuity end to end
- Measure the line for voltage with both modules disconnected; battery voltage present confirms a short to power
- Inspect the connectors and the harness between the two modules for breaks, chafing and corrosion
- Voltage drop test the grounds of both modules
- Repair the broken or shorted wire with a properly sealed joint and secure the loom
- Replace the sending module only once the wiring and grounds have proven good
