What does it mean?
P1882 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Shift Stroke Sensor Malfunction (Output Error) .
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp and a transmission warning message on the dash
- Gear changes fail, take a very long time or complete only partially
- Gearbox stuck in neutral or locked in one gear
- Jerky, uncomfortable launches and shifts
- Limp operation with restricted speed
- In some cases no drive at all until the ignition is cycled
Likely causes
- Internally failed sensor giving an output outside the valid range
- Open, short or high resistance in the signal, supply or ground circuit
- Oil or moisture inside the gearbox connector corroding the terminals
- Sensor loose on its mount so the reading no longer matches the fork travel
- Shift actuator sticking, or a fork obstructed so the stroke never completes
- Calibration not carried out after clutch, actuator or gearbox service
- Faulty sensor input inside the TCM
How to fix it
- Read TCM codes and freeze frame data before clearing
- Watch the shift stroke value in live data through a full shift cycle and compare it with the commanded stroke
- Inspect the gearbox connector for oil ingress, corrosion and loose terminals
- Measure the sensor supply and ground at the connector and check signal continuity to the module
- Confirm the shift actuator moves freely and the mechanism is not binding
- Run the specified calibration or adaptation procedure after any mechanical work
- Replace the sensor, or the actuator unit where the sensor is integrated, if the output stays out of range
