What does it mean?
U1162 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Loss of Rear Driver Door Module SBI .
Symptoms
- Rear window on the driver side not working from either the door switch or the master switch
- Rear door lock not following central locking, or the child lock function behaving oddly
- Door ajar warning permanently displayed for that door
- Interior lamps remaining on because the door status is wrong
- Battery drain when the module cannot go to sleep
- The rear door module missing from the scan tool module list
Likely causes
- Broken conductors in the harness that passes through the rear door hinge boot
- Water inside the rear door reaching the module and its connector, often after the drain holes clog with dirt
- Corroded terminals in the door connector, particularly on vehicles used in wet or salty conditions
- Blown fuse, poor supply or a bad ground at the rear door module
- Bus wiring open or shorted between the rear door module and the body control module
- Internal failure of the rear door module
- Damage caused during earlier window regulator, lock actuator or speaker replacement
How to fix it
- Watch the module on the scan tool while the rear door is opened and closed to catch an intermittent break
- Remove the boot between the body and the rear door and inspect each conductor, flexing it by hand
- Inspect the door connector and module for corrosion, moisture and green pins, and clear the door drains
- Measure supply voltage and ground at the module under load, and check the relevant fuse
- Test bus continuity from the rear door module to the body control module
- Repair the harness or connector, then dry the door and cure the water leak
- Replace the rear door module only once the wiring and supply are proven, then verify window and lock operation
