What does it mean?
U1163 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Loss of Rear PASS Door Module SBI .
Symptoms
- Passenger side rear window and lock inoperative from all switches
- Window moving in one direction only or stopping part way
- Central locking skipping that door, or the door unlocking on its own
- Door ajar message that will not clear and interior lamps staying on
- Unexplained battery drain overnight
- That door module is not listed by the scan tool
Likely causes
- Fatigued or broken wires inside the rear door hinge boot on the passenger side
- Moisture and corrosion in the door connector or on the module circuit board after the vapour barrier or drains failed
- Blown fuse or an open supply feed to that door module
- Bad ground connection inside the door or at the body
- Open or shorted bus wiring between this door module and the body control module
- Internal failure of the rear door module
- Harness damage from luggage, child seats or previous trim removal
How to fix it
- Reproduce the fault by opening and closing the door while monitoring communication with the scan tool
- Peel back the hinge boot and check every wire for breaks and stretched copper under intact insulation
- Inspect the connector, module and door interior for water, corrosion and blocked drain holes
- Check the fuse, and measure supply voltage and ground at the module while the circuit is loaded
- Test the bus wiring from the module back to the body control module for opens and shorts
- Dry the door, repair the vapour barrier and unblock the drains so the fault does not return
- Replace the door module last, then confirm window, lock and door ajar functions work correctly
