What does it mean?
U1192 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Loss of Communications with VTD . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.
Symptoms
- Engine cranks but will not start, or starts and stalls after a second or two
- Security or immobilizer indicator flashing or staying on
- Vehicle starting normally with one key but not with another
- Remote start refusing to work
- Alarm arming or sounding at random
- Intermittent no-start that can sometimes be cleared by leaving the ignition on for a while
Likely causes
- Damaged or corroded wiring between the theft deterrent module and the engine or body control module
- Blown fuse, poor supply voltage or a bad ground at the theft deterrent module
- Faulty ignition lock cylinder sensor or a damaged wire from it, on systems that read the key at the lock
- Damaged antenna ring or its lead around the ignition switch
- Weak battery or a heavy voltage drop during cranking
- Theft deterrent module or engine control unit replaced without carrying out the relearn procedure
- Internal failure of the theft deterrent module
How to fix it
- Try the spare key and note whether the behaviour changes; that separates a key problem from a network problem
- Observe the security indicator, since its flashing pattern tells you whether the system is actively blocking the engine
- Measure battery voltage during cranking, because voltage collapse alone can break this communication
- Check the fuse, supply and ground at the theft deterrent module under load
- Inspect the antenna ring, the ignition lock sensor and the column harness for damage and corrosion
- Test the wiring between the theft deterrent module and the engine control unit for continuity and shorts
- After repair, carry out the required key or module relearn procedure and verify normal starting several times
