What does it mean?
B1201 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: LF Curtain Airbag Module Circuits Shorted .
Symptoms
- Airbag/SRS warning lamp on constantly after the self test
- The whole restraint system is disabled, so nothing will deploy in a collision
- Fault that appears and disappears over rough roads or when a door is slammed
- Other restraint circuit codes stored at the same time
- Vehicle fails inspection because of the permanently lit SRS lamp
Likely causes
- Connector at the A-pillar not fully latched, leaving the internal shorting bar engaged
- Squib wires shorted at the connector by spread, bent or pushed-out terminals
- Wiring pinched or crushed during headliner, A-pillar trim or windscreen work
- Water leak from the windscreen seal or roof rail corroding the connector and bridging the circuit
- Harness trapped by a grab handle bolt, seat belt anchorage or a trim clip
- Internally shorted curtain airbag inflator or squib
- Faulty output circuit inside the restraint control module
How to fix it
- Disconnect the battery and wait the manufacturer-specified time before touching any restraint connector
- Inspect the curtain airbag connector at the A-pillar: check the latch, terminal alignment and the shorting bar
- Look for water staining and corrosion along the A-pillar and roof rail and fix the leak first if one is found
- Remove the pillar trim and inspect the harness for pinch, crush and trapped sections
- Measure the loop only with an approved restraint system tester; never probe a live squib circuit with an ordinary meter
- Repair the affected harness section with the specified restraint repair parts, or replace the harness
- Replace the curtain airbag module if the short stays on the airbag side, then clear the codes and confirm the SRS lamp goes out after its bulb check
