What does it mean?
B1207 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Climate Control Unit Lost Communication with Gauge Control Module (ILLUMI message) .
Symptoms
- Climate panel backlight stays at full brightness at night, or stays dark with the headlights on
- Turning the dimmer has no effect on the climate panel while other panel lights dim normally
- Climate display shows a fault indication or behaves inconsistently
- Backlighting flickers or changes brightness on its own
- Additional lost communication codes stored at the same time
Likely causes
- Panel dimmer switch faulty or its circuit open, so the cluster has no illumination level to broadcast
- Communication wire between the climate unit and the cluster open, shorted or with high resistance
- Blown fuse on the panel lighting circuit
- Corroded or loose connectors at the dimmer switch, the cluster or the climate unit
- Cluster internal fault so the illumination message is never transmitted
- Poor ground behind the dashboard shared by the lighting circuits
- Damage from previous dashboard, audio or lighting installation work
- Failed input circuit in the climate control unit
How to fix it
- Turn the dimmer through its full range while watching the illumination value in live data
- Check the panel lighting fuse and confirm the dimmer switch itself operates correctly
- Inspect the connectors at the cluster, the dimmer switch and the climate control unit
- Test continuity and resistance on the communication wire between the cluster and the climate unit
- Check the shared grounds behind the dashboard for corrosion and looseness
- Repair the dimmer circuit or the wiring fault that is found and retest the dimming range
- Replace the cluster or the climate control unit only if the message is proven missing at a known good connector
