What does it mean?
B1206 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Climate Control Unit Lost Communication with Gauge Control Module (ECT message) .
Symptoms
- Heater blows cold, or the blower is held off in automatic mode because the system believes the engine is still cold
- Temperature gauge dead, stuck at cold or reading erratically
- Climate display shows dashes or a fault symbol instead of a value
- Cabin heating output does not match the selected temperature
- Engine temperature warning may not appear when it should
- Other lost communication codes stored alongside this one
Likely causes
- Communication wire between the climate unit and the cluster open, shorted or with high resistance
- Cluster not powered or not transmitting: blown fuse, poor ground, internal fault
- Engine coolant temperature sensor faulty or its circuit open or shorted, so the value never reaches the cluster
- Corroded, loose or partially seated connector at either module
- Wiring damage behind the dash from previous accessory or heater work
- Low or unstable battery voltage causing intermittent network dropouts
- Failed input circuit inside the climate control unit
How to fix it
- Compare the coolant temperature in the engine module live data with the value the cluster is showing
- Verify the coolant temperature sensor reading against the real engine temperature after a warm-up
- Check cluster fuses, supply voltage and ground before condemning any module
- Inspect and reseat the connectors at the climate unit and the cluster, checking for corrosion
- Test the communication circuit between the two units for continuity and resistance
- Repair the sensor or circuit fault at source before replacing modules, since the cluster cannot forward missing data
- Replace and configure the cluster or the climate control unit only once the wiring and the data source are proven good
