What does it mean?

B1344 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Airbag > Weight Classification > ODS ECU Defect .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp permanently lit
  • Passenger airbag status indicator incorrect, it may show off with an adult in the seat
  • Occupant classification data missing or frozen in live data
  • Passenger seat belt reminder does not work correctly
  • The restraint deployment strategy is compromised, which makes this a safety issue

Likely causes

  • Internal failure of the occupant detection module mounted under the passenger seat
  • Liquid spilled into the seat reaching the module
  • Module connector corroded or not fully latched after seat or trim work
  • Wiring under the seat pinched by the seat rails or broken by repeated seat travel
  • Low supply voltage or a poor ground at the module
  • Module fitted without the required programming or calibration after a repair
  • Seat cushion or sensor mat replaced with an incompatible part

How to fix it

  1. Disconnect the battery and wait the specified time before working on any restraint component
  2. Try to read the occupant detection module data and note whether the module responds at all
  3. Measure power and ground at the module connector under the seat
  4. Inspect the under-seat harness for pinching, stretched wires and corroded terminals
  5. Look for evidence of spilled liquid in the seat cushion, then dry or repair as required
  6. Replace the occupant detection module or sensor assembly with the correct part and program it
  7. Complete the occupant classification calibration and verify the status lamp responds correctly to an empty and an occupied seat
