What does it mean?

B1348 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: DAB Circuit Short To Ground .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp on and the restraint system disabled
  • Driver airbag will not deploy in a crash
  • The horn may sound by itself or stop working
  • The code sets again on every ignition cycle
  • No effect on engine performance

Likely causes

  • Squib circuit touching the vehicle body or the steering column casting
  • Clockspring ribbon damaged and contacting the column structure
  • Wiring pinched between the steering wheel and the shroud during reassembly
  • Corrosion in a connector bridging a squib wire to a ground pin
  • Airbag module internally shorted to its own housing
  • Damage caused during steering column, steering wheel or airbag replacement work
  • Restraint control module connector terminal bent onto a ground pin

How to fix it

  1. Disconnect the battery and wait the specified time before working on the restraint system
  2. Remove the driver airbag and check both squib wires to ground with the airbag disconnected
  3. Inspect the clockspring for chafing, cracks and incorrect centring
  4. Check the connectors at both ends of the circuit for corrosion, debris and bent pins
  5. Look for wiring pinched under the column shrouds from previous work
  6. Replace the clockspring or repair the harness where the ground contact is found
  7. Replace the driver airbag module if the short is internal to it, then clear codes and verify the lamp completes its self-test
